On June 22nd, SAHWA participated in a Policy Workshop on Democracy, Youth, and Social Justice: Challenges for Europe and the Middle East.
Organised by the Directorate-General for Research & Innovation, this Workshop took place in Brussels, at INFOPOINT EUROPA. This event featured three FP7-SSH funded research projects focusing on different aspects of transition in selected MENA countries, namely ARABTRANS, POWER2YOUTH and SAHWA.
After ARABTRANS and POWER2YOUTH Coordinators introduced some of their findings, SAHWA Scientific Coordinator Elena Sánchez-Montijano went on by presenting some findings and preliminary conclusions from the SAHWA Youth Survey and Ethnographic Fieldwork, particularly in terms of youth emigration in the Arab Mediterranean Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia). Asuman Göksel, SAHWA’s Coordinator for the Middle East Technical University (METU, Ankara) then presented METU’s Policy Report on the impact of EU Youth Cooperation Schemes in the Arab Mediterranean Countries.
These presentations were followed by Q & A with an audience made of a variety of stakeholders on youth, mainly from the European Commission (DG Research, DG NEAR, DG DEVCO, DG Education) and the European Parliament.
